Hey all!

My name is Jerry Frech and I am happily married to my best friend and supporter Dana! She is wonderful and an awesome artist. As you are aware, I am an artist with a passion. It took many years to realize it and the real awakening came in 2006.

I just got married and in Janurary I was selected to go to Iraq. I was part of a 13 man team going to support security operation in a base in Northern Iraq. It sucked and I needed a way to get away from it all. That's when I took refuge in my long time passion.

I started to do something I never did before, I started to keep a journal with sketches of my experiences there. After 2 months of this I made a decision to leave my old job and go back to study art!

When I got home I left my $40K a year job and started looking for art schools. Well a year later we're both enrolled at Bluefield College with Scholarships studying Fine Arts!

You have some very strong work. I would encourage you to expand your portfolio with pencil sketches; your treatment of your subjects in that medium thus far is excellent, although derivative. I hope that you will consider applying the same sensitivity and techniques to original subject matter.
Your paintings show an impressive use of color and scale (although it would be helpful to your viewers if you would note the size of each piece in the description.) Finally, a bit of friendly advice--don't undervalue your work. I noticed that you gave the portrait piece a price of $500.00, for example. I believe the piece to be worth several times that amount. I would also have to argue that your work is not necessarily "abstract". I would suggest that you consider terms like "iconic realism" or even "surrealist expressionism"; both of these phrases, while they are a bit clumsy and inadequate--as are many words or phrases that attempt to classify art--refer specifically to the way you organize your forms or masses--through your use of color(s) and shape(s). These phrases also seem to apply equally to both your representational and non-representational themes. Just for fun you might look at (or look again at) some of the work by Diego Rivera. You and he have a lot more in common than you might think....
